Why does the United States still buy oil from Venezuelas president when he wants to destroy this country?

When we were in a crunch he allowed his oil prices to be drastically reduced in order for poor people to be able to afford it. But wasn't that just a way of buying support? Why does the United States still buy oil from Venezuelas president when he wants to destroy this country?
Buying support for what? Do you actually think he wants to destroy America? Please, get a clue. Why does the United States still buy oil from Venezuelas president when he wants to destroy this country?
Better question: Why does Hugo Chavez, President of Venezuela, still sell oil to the United States. Perhaps he's afraid of George Bush?
yes it is. he doesn't want to destroy it he wants to take it over for the oil
Pragmatism and expedience as well as economy (shipping costs). But the US firms don't buy it from the Government, they buy from the Venezuelan oil company. Which happens to own Citgo, a major US oil refiner-marketer.
Citgo is gradually closing and selling off their stations.
The oil companies will be doing business long after this tinhorn has been assassinated and returned to the earth from which ha sprang.
Can I have what you're smoking? Chavez has every reason to suspect the President of trying to oust him. Do you remember the coup? That was backed by the Administration. Why? Because the oil companies were screaming about Chavez's policy of taxing them so that he could improve his country.

If you live in a fantasy world were the U.S. government wouldn't do something like that, just look to Iran. Yes, Iran! We overthrew a DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED government at the behest of oil companies. Because of that, look at the problems we're having now.

For the most part, I'm ambivalent about Chavez. But he has done some good things. He's provided free doctors for those areas hot by hurricanes. He was willing to provide gas and oil to those areas that were hit by Hurricane Katrina at a loss to his country, just to help them out.

Actions speak louder than words.
For the same reason that displaced Mom and Pop store owners now shop at Wal-mart. You deal with whomever you must to survive in this world. You may hate the entity and despise their philosophy, but we all have to get by. You just grin and bear it.
I suppose we need it, though if we could drill in Alaska we wouldn't need to go to Venezuela and then they'd have to change their tune. Everybody, including the animal lobby, wants drilling in Alaska. Only the outside environmentalists are against. Sunoco, which I know doesn't sell all over the country, doesn't import any of it's oil.
I agree it is pragmatism, but I just want to answer the guy claiming the venezuelan president doesn't want to destroy us. He made an official announcement that he has allied with Syria against the US's soul called imperialism. Read a newspaper bakka.
We buy his oil because we are addicted to his oil. We will continue to be addicted as long as we feel the necessity to drive our gas guzzling SUV's, never carpool and keep our houses so cold in the summer we could hang meat in the living room.
For exactly the same reasons Americans are great consumers of Chinese Communist goods.
Because the USA needs as much oil as it can get. The USA has only 5 % of the world's population, yet it uses 25%of the world's energy, and causes 25% of the world's pollution.

Additionally, you have a very distorted view of Chavez. He is one of the few world presidents who is actually doing some good for his citizens. He has improved the lifestyles of Venezuelans. The American government does not like him because he does not belong to one of the elites who are making war on the rest of the world. It's not Venezuela that wants to destroy America. Its America that wants to destroy the rest of the world. Additionally, do you really believe that Bush is interested in American citizens. If he was, he wouldn't have been involved in arranging to murder 3000 of them on 9/11. Additionally he wouldn't want American soldiers to be killed everyday. Bush doesn't care about you. Why protect him so much.

People outside of America, the other 95%, who get some truth in their newspapers and TV (not much, but some) know that he is one of the world's best presidents, and far superior to Bush.
Money talks and bullsh*t walks.
The way the corporations see it is, Chavez is a clown, but business is business.
because american's are self-centers little biotches, and they can't live without oil. no one even thinks of not using their car, or cutting down on gasss
